The family that runs Dale’s Donuts, a Saline County breakfast spot at 919 Military Road in Benton, has put the business up for sale.
Owner Joel Dale Atchley posted a statement on social media Monday saying his family has decided to retire “after 40 memorable years of serving our beloved community.”
Dale and Peggy Atchley opened Dale’s Donuts in 1978. Their son, Joel Dale Atchley, has worked there since 1983 and took over the business in 2002, Poole reported.
The offer is a “rare opportunity to own a thriving, iconic donut shop that has been loved by generations of locals,” Atchley wrote on Facebook.
Stephanie Smittle perfectly described the iconic doughnut shop’s storefront in a 2023 Arkansas Times article titled “Is Benton’s Good Now?” “As one colleague put it, the cornflower blue siding atop the tavern-style building is the stuff David Lynch would dream up.”
The Bentonites’ love for the shop is genuine. When the rookie reporter was tasked by the Arkansas Times to rank frosted doughnuts in central Arkansas in just a few days and omitted Dell’s, fans of the shop slammed her in the comments section.
