Two of New York’s biggest brands—a streetwear icon and a candy kingpin—have teamed up to create a dessert that’s both stylish and crunchy. Pastry king Dominique Ansel and Kith Treats have teamed up to create a limited-edition cronut, and here’s the surprise: The flavor won’t be revealed until the day before it goes on sale.
Inspired by Kith’s global slogan, “New York to the World,” the co-branded Cronut, called “The Metropolitan,” coincides with Dominique Ansel Bakery’s 14th anniversary and Kith Treats’ 10th. It’s the first collaboration between the two brands, which are known for fusing tradition with high-impact creativity—in this case, butter.
The secret flavor will finally be revealed on Thursday, May 15, via @dominiqueansel and @kithtreats. Until then, feel free to speculate—purple yam? Baklava? Pizza Rat Praline Swirl? Okay, maybe that last one is yet to be revealed.
From Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 18, the Cronut will be available exclusively at Dominique Ansel Bakery in SoHo (189 Spring Street). Meanwhile, all US Kith Treats locations, including the recently reopened SoHo flagship (337 Lafayette Street), will serve soft serve ice cream infused with the same secret Cronut flavor. After all, what’s a celebration without ice cream?
Ansel, best known for his invention of the Cronut in 2013, is known for keeping New Yorkers on their toes and forming long lines. Add in Kith’s design-loving fan base, and it’s safe to say this collaboration will appeal to sneakerheads and sweet tooths alike.
So whether you’re an urban fashionista, pastry lover, or just plain Instagram-obsessed, mark your calendar. This cake will definitely become a “future collector’s item” – that is, if you can get one.
