Popular Bakery Near Springfield Shuts Down Permanently

by Celia

Bakin’ Me Happy, a beloved bakery in Riverton, closed its doors for the last time on May 25.

Owner Tina Aten cited a personal decision for the closure. Initially, the bakery and breakfast shop on North 7th Street had planned to reopen after Memorial Day. However, a social media post on May 30 announced the permanent shutdown due to an unexpected event.

“I’m just asking for my privacy at this time,” Aten wrote in her Facebook announcement. “This past year has been a whirlwind of emotions for me and my staff. We’ve met amazing people and created wonderful memories. Our appreciation could never be stressed enough.”

Aten expressed gratitude to the communities of Springfield and Riverton for their support and apologized for the abrupt closure after Memorial Day.

According to the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State, Bakin’ Me Happy LLC has been active since January 20 of last year, with Aten as its sole employee.

Bakery merchandise and equipment will be available for purchase from June 7 to 9 at Aten’s home, along with furniture and other household items. Updates on the sale will be posted on Aten’s Facebook page.
