Asian bakery fans, rejoice! The popular 85c Bakery Café will open its first location this summer at 4025 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie, Louisiana. The Taiwanese-founded bakery chain is a popular destination for Asian Americans to purchase traditional baked goods. Franchisee Ah Ho Yeoh told What’s New Orleans Now that many in the local Asian community will no longer have to travel far to get their hands on the Asian pastries and the chain’s signature salty coffee they crave.
“A lot of Asians, myself included, drive to Houston to get their baked goods,” he said. “A lot of local Asian grocery stores also get their goods from Houston and sell them locally. But then, the goods are no longer fresh because you’re getting something that’s one or two days old. So I’m sure a lot of people here will be very excited [when 85c opens].”
85c offers a variety of baked goods from East Asia and beyond, including donuts, breads, pastries, Danish pastries, puff pastry rolls, and more. The roastery-café is also known for its wide variety of coffee drinks, including espresso, bubble tea, milk tea, and blended juice drinks. The chain is particularly known for its coffee and tea drinks topped with salted whipped cream. 85c currently has locations in ten other states, including Texas and California.
