A serious question: Do you prefer jelly donuts or sprinkles? I love chocolate sprinkles, but really, when it comes to donuts, can you go wrong? I vote no. After all, some versions of donuts are older than you think.
According to Smithsonian Magazine, “Donuts in various forms have been around for so long that archaeologists continue to find fossilized fragments of donut-like objects in the ruins of prehistoric Native American settlements.” Our love for fried dough is as old as time.
So it’s no surprise that we have a holiday dedicated to celebrating (and enjoying) our favorite donut. National Donut Day is traditionally celebrated on the first Friday of June each year.
The holiday dates back to 1938, when it was first created by the Salvation Army to honor service members who provided donuts to soldiers during World War I. I learn something new every day. I had no idea that the sweetest of food holidays had such heartwarming origins.
If all this talk of donuts has you salivating, I don’t blame you. Luckily, donut shops and cafes across the country are waiting to see your appetite, and they’ve got some delicious deals for you this year. Today and all month long, you can get a free or low-cost donut right here!
Shipley’s Donuts
All day long, head to a store near you and get a free Shipley’s signature frosted donut with any purchase. Just use the promo code DonutDay2025 when ordering online or through the Membership App.
But that’s not all! The chain will be celebrating the big day every Friday throughout the month. On June 13, customers will get a dozen donuts (instead of a dozen) to celebrate Friday the 13th, or choose to get a free frosted donut with any purchase.
On June 20, customers can get a free classic frosted donut with any purchase, and finally, on June 27, you can get a free frosted donut at any Shipley’s store.
7-Eleven
For one day only, 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards members can enjoy a classic frosted donut for 50 cents at all participating 7-Eleven, Speedway and Stripes convenience stores.
If you missed the deal, you can still enjoy a frosted donut for just $1 until June 24.
Dunkin’ Donuts
This year, Dunkin’ is celebrating National Donut Day with a bang. Not only will the chain be giving away free classic donuts, but it will also be launching a limited-edition Stoney Clover Lane collection at 10 a.m.
The collection includes a sweet double-doughnut bag, four Dunkin’-style collectible pins, two bag charms, acrylic and stainless steel cups, straw lids and cup sleeves. In addition, select stores will be offering donuts in specially customized mini donut bags for the holiday.
Honey Dew Donut
On June 6, all Honey Dew Donut stores will give customers a free donut with the purchase of any medium drink.

To celebrate this important holiday, the “real donut shop coffee” is offering customers an amazing deal: 50% off all coffee and K-Cup Pod products on its website from June 6 to 8. You can use the code DONUT50 to grab the deal.

This year, Krispy Kreme is going big on National Donut Day, launching a 14-day deal on Original Frosted Donuts on June 6.
Starting today, customers can visit their local participating store and buy a dozen of their favorite plain frosted donuts for just $2.
If that’s too many donuts for you, you can just walk in and get one for free, no purchase required.
If you can’t make it to the store on the 6th, you can go back the next day and rewards members can buy a dozen plain frosted donuts for $9.99.
Starting June 13, a new promotion will be available where customers who buy a dozen will get a dozen plain frosted donuts for 13 cents.
Lidl
The grocery store chain will be giving away a free frosted donut on June 6th through the store’s MyLidl app.
