The results of Bashas’ 10th annual Donut Flavor Frenzy Contest are in. Two new donut flavors are coming to Bashas supermarket bakery counters across Arizona, just in time for National Donut Day on Friday, June 6.
Miele K., 13, of Paradise Valley, Arizona, won first place in the youth category with her Desert Campfire Smore Donut, a Long John donut topped with chocolate frosting, topped with marshmallow cream, and sprinkled with graham cracker crumbs and mini marshmallows.
Elizabeth Bouck of Gilbert, Arizona, submitted the adult champion donut. Her Donoli Donut is a vanilla frosted donut filled with cinnamon cream cheese frosting, topped with cannoli and chocolate chips, and finished with chocolate frosting.
As part of the annual contest, Bashas’ invites children and adults across the state to come up with the best donut flavor for grocery store bakeries. Those interested can submit their donut creations from any of the themes from the past nine years. The themes include: Pop Culture, Odd Donut Flavors, Sweet and Savory, Arizona Themes, Guilty Pleasures, Fiesta Flavors, Global Flavors, and Retro and Future.
A panel of judges made up of local celebrities assisted Bashas’ in selecting the winners. The two winning flavors will be available at Bashas’ bakeries across the state starting Friday, June 6.
In addition, on National Donut Day, Bashas’ will donate 10% of donut sales on Friday, June 6 to the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army established National Donut Day in June 1938 to honor volunteers who provide sweet treats to soldiers on the front lines.
In addition, guests can receive 18 donuts with the purchase of two Don Francisco coffee bags or coffee bags.
In addition to being named the 2025 Official Bashas Donut Ambassadors, Miele and Elizabeth will receive a dozen donuts from Bashas Bakery each month for a year, as well as $500 in prizes, including a Bashas gift card.
The runner-up in the Youth category was Audrey S., 13, of Tucson. She will receive a $50 Bashas gift card to redeem for her A Latte Sugar donut, a cream donut topped with chocolate coffee frosting and drizzled with caramel and espresso bean ganache.
The runner-up in the Adult category was Sheryl Keeme of Tempe, who will receive a $50 Bashas’ gift card for her entry, The Salty White Turtle, a vanilla donut dipped in white ganache, drizzled with caramel and topped with chopped pecans and sea salt.
The three honorable mentions in the teen category are: Creedence M., 9, of Buckeye, for her “Island Kiss Donut”; Charlee Y., 13, of Scottsdale, for her “The “Wicked” I Donut of Bashas’; and Braxton B., 16, of Queen Creek, for her “Chocolate Covered Pretzel”; and the three honorable mentions in the adult category are: Shaunna Serfin, of Glendale, for her “Peach Cobbler Crunch”; Janet Gunderson, of Flagstaff, for her “Cookies and Milk for Santa”; and Maya Gordon, of Chandler, for her “Coco Mocha Monkey Banana” donut. Each of the six winners will receive a $20 Bashas’ gift card.
