Fast-growing Shipley Do-Nuts, one of the largest doughnut and kolache brands in the U.S., has opened its first North Carolina location at 31 Optical Ct. NW in Concord, just north of Charlotte.
Founded in Houston in 1936, Shipley’s offers more than 60 varieties of fresh doughnuts, handmade daily, including its signature plain glazed doughnuts, the iconic Shipley’s hexagonal doughnut, as well as filled, iced and cake doughnuts, bear claws, coffee and more.
Shipley’s is also known for its kolaches (kuh-LAH-chees) — a savory pastry with a filling inside — and offers several fresh, homemade varieties, including bacon, egg and cheese, ham and cheese, and sausage, jalapeno and cheese.
The new Concord location, locally owned by husband-and-wife team John and Lillian Brijeski, offers a “Hot Frosted Donut Guarantee” daily from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m., meaning guests can expect hot, melt-in-your-mouth frosted donuts when they visit during those hours.

Shipley plans to expand its presence in North Carolina (NC), with five new stores currently in the works in the Charlotte area. North Carolina is a key market for the brand, which is actively recruiting franchisees to expand into other markets in the state, including Raleigh-Durham, Greensboro and Winston-Salem. The brand will host Discovery Days in Raleigh and Charlotte, North Carolina on April 22 and 24.
