Following the success of its sister shop I’m Donut (known for its wide variety of sweet and savory doughnuts and legendary lines), Fukuoka-born Amam Dacotan has finally opened shop in Omotesando.
The popular bakery originally rose to fame during Japan’s “maritozzo” craze when they introduced a variety of exquisite Italian pastries filled with fresh cream and served with rich toppings. The Omotesando store serves up more than 140 freshly baked goods daily, including the popular Dakota Burger, which is stuffed with purple cabbage and homemade sausage. Other signature items include the mentaiko pepper baguette, pistachio maritozzo, and honey toast topped with seasonal fruits.
The interior of Amam Dacotan is just as photogenic as its baked goods. The rustic restaurant features cobblestone floors, European antique furniture, and dried flowers hanging from the walls and ceiling. While most people choose to take out, there are about five tables if you want to enjoy your meal on the outdoor terrace.
Don’t expect a quick grab and go, though. The bakery has recently gone viral on social media for its long lines, with users saying that even on weekdays, they have to wait an hour or two to get their bread and pastries.
