I’m Donut, a doughnut chain with five locations in Tokyo, has signed a lease to open its first U.S. location near Times Square. The new location will open this fall at 154 West 45th Street (between Sixth and Seventh Avenues), a company spokesperson confirmed.
In Tokyo, I’m Donut is known for its long lines and unique doughnuts, which have pumpkin in the dough. (Fans say the pumpkin gives the doughnuts a fluffy, soft texture.) The doughnut selection is extensive—some locations have more than 80 flavors—and toppings include red beans, pistachios, anchovies, dried pineapple, and chopped olives. The New York location’s menu has not yet been announced.
Desert 5 Spot, a Western-style bar based in Los Angeles, is coming to Williamsburg, at 94 Wise Avenue near North 11th Street, according to a spokesperson. It’s a haven for people who love themed bars. There’s a mechanical bull, cowhide rugs, salon-style doors, and suede wallpaper. Live music and line dancing are the icing on the cake. The bar is set to open later this month.
A plant-based outdoor food festival returns to Manhattan this month. The Vegan Night Market, which began last year, kicks off the summer season at Columbus Circle on Tuesday, May 7, from noon to 8 p.m. (The market will be held on the first Tuesday of each month through October.) This year, more than 20 plant-based vendors will be on hand, with stalls selling vegan hot dogs, burritos and Ethiopian cuisine.
