I’m Donut in Nakameguro is so popular that the specialty bakery has opened a second, larger branch in Shibuya. Unfortunately, the lines aren’t long. But for your patience, you’ll have more than 80 varieties of raw donuts to choose from, known for their fluffy, chewy, melt-in-your-mouth texture.
The shop’s donuts range from sweet to savory, made with different types of dough, including brioche, cake-like dough, and even spicy dough. However, owner and chef Ryota Hirako’s signature donut is the classic French churro, made with egg-based brioche and cream cheese for a tart flavor. Similarly, the fruit donut is made with the same brioche dough, but with dried fruits like raisins and pineapple soaked in wine.
Of the savory options, the I’m Burger is a must-try – it’s essentially a juicy burger patty sandwiched between a spelt donut bun. There is also a luxurious truffle donut, with fragrant truffle bits mixed into the dough.
In addition, I’m Donut Shibuya also offers a “sustainable donut” menu, selling irregularly shaped donuts to minimize waste. The most popular one is the “orange donut”, where the flattened or squashed donut is drizzled with rich honey butter and sweet orange syrup.
